A Fine Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Mahogany Commode, by Pretot, Mid-19th Century. After the model by Benemen and Stockel, with a marble top above two frieze drawers, the arched central panel set with a plaque depicitng Ceres, the interior with two linen drawers. The ebeniste Hippolyte-Edme Pretot (1812-1855) is recorded at 16, rue de lˇAbbaye in 1836 and 11bis, rue Saint-Germain-des-Pres in 1841. From 1846 he was located at 3 and 5 rue dy Harlay. He exhibited in Paris at the 1849 Exposition Nationale and then in 1852 at the London exhibtion where he was awarded a medal.
