A Napoleon III Ormolu & Blackened-Steel Orbit Clock, by Deniere, Paris, 19th Century. Surmounted by a cloud Bourne putto, the spherical clock case studded with stars and a central band of scrolling foliage, above three garland-bearing Putti, on a shaped base with a wreath and courting doves, the works stamped Deniere A Paris. In 1844 Guillame Deniere took over the Parisian business established by his father in 1804, producing a variety of high quality decorative bronzes. Under the Second Empire, Deniere supplied important commissions to the Mobilier de la Couronne (mainly clocks for the Tuileries), to Kisselef, the Russian Ambassador, and to Said Pasha, the viceroy of Egypt. Tardy cites the firm as being active until 1890.
