A Silvered Bronze Group: Eagle & The Source, by Louis-Charles-Hippolyte Buhot 1815-1865. With rouge marble-rotating base set with a silvered bronze relief panel depicting cavorting putti, inscribed BUHOT. Literature: Cf. Western European Bronzes of the 19th Century, New York, Shepherd Gallery, 1973, No. 9. Louis-Charles-Hippolyte Buhot (1815-1865) was a pupil of David d_ Angers. He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts at the age of seventeen. Buhot exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1837 until the year he died when he exhibited the original plaster of the offered lot. It has been suggested the Buhot_s Hebe & Jupiter_s Eagle takes inspiration from Francois Rude_s interpretation of the same theme, which he created for his native city of Dijon, unveiled in 1855.
