Fran‡ois Linke, An Important Suite De Salle ? Manger, Index Number 380 Paris, Circa 1921. Acajou and Villefranche de Conflent marble, the thirteen pieces stamped F. Linke, one lock removed to reveal the Ct. Linke stamp and number 380, signed F. Linke to each keyhole escutcheon. Provenance: Fran‡ois Linke?s daughter, Quai Henri IV, Paris Literature: C.Payne, Fran‡ois Linke, the chairs illustrated p. 312 and p. 309, pl. 324 for a watercolor interior project showing the present dining suite furnishing a Louis XVI style room. This dining room was used personally by Fran‡ois Linke, and later by his daughter Caroline and subsequently granddaughter GeneviŠve, at their apartments on the Quai Henri IV. There is no consistency in the price books and the numbers 379 to 381 were originally a cylinder desk, center table, and small vitrine made in the 1890s. It appears that this number was left blank and only reused in the green register for the making of this suite. The first dining table was made in 1921 for Mr. Aby Shohet, who also ordered the dressoir and desserte, the same time another version was made to keep in stock in the showrooms, and it is probably this second suite that Linke took for his own personal use at home.
